Good insights into decision making. While teaching decision making to audiences across the country, I find at the heart of our struggle with decisions is the fact we cannot tell with certainty before--or even after a decision, whether or not we made the best decision because we cannot say what would have happened had we made another choice.

An insurance company insures a parent against the risk of a teenage driver in a home by raising the premium. The insurer cannot protect a parent from the uncertainty of having a young driver. A method for quantifying criteria and weighing them against each option is a great method for eliminating some of the risk in a decision--but even an objective process cannot eliminate all of the uncertainty. That's what keeps life challenging and all of us remembering we're very human.
