Orient Ocean Restaurant @ Miramar Hotel

September 4, 2007 · Filed Under Yummy!

Got a chance to go to Orient Ocean Restaurant @ Miramar Hotel for ala-carte buffet with hubby last week. We ate till we was too full to eat anymore. Place was like a normal Chinese restaurant and we were seated at 1 side of the restaurant where all the other diners were seated too, and think that’s the only area that got table for 2 persons. Not many people dining that evening probably cos it’s a weekday.

So what do we had?

Braised Shark's Fin with Bamboo Pith and Crab Meat from Orient Ocean Restaurant

That’s one of my all-time favorite! Though find it a bit saltish. Too bad, we are only allow to order one bowl each. think I would have ordered another bowl. Guess that’s the reason why they only allow 1 bowl per person. ;)

Boiled Live Prawns

The live prawns are sweet but we still think that the live prawns from Feng Yun are more juicer and sweeter.

Fried Chilli Crab

Chilli Crab is Yummy! The chilli crab gravy is just right! Make sure you order the bun to go along with the gravy. It’s sure a waste not to finish the curry sauce. We ordered the buns a bit later and hubby told the waitress not to clear the chilli crab gravy before the buns came. For me, I loved the crab, it’s sweet and yummy!

Prawn Paste Chicken

A dish that we always order whenever the place do have this dish. (If you do notice! :) ) Not really a great fan of it, but hubby seems to like it. Well, for this dish, I got not much comment. Probably had forgotten the taste.

Fried Prawns in Hong Kong Style

At 1st glance of the fried prawns, I had thought that it was spicy. But nope, it’s not. In fact, if I remembered correctly, it taste sweet. Not sure it’s the prawn that make it sweet or the sauce that make it sweet.

Steamed Scallops with Beancurd in Black Bean Sauce

Here’s something simple to ease the tummy. Hehe! Though it looks plain but well, I like this simple dish. A small little scallop on the top of the tofu to add a little flavour to the dish. Yummy!

Steamed Seabass in Teochew Style

Ok! Here’s my least favourite for the evening. I had always dislike eating fish and this dish didn’t manage to change my mind of it. Hubby commented that it’s alright and there is no taste of the mud. But for it, the ’stinking’ taste of the fish is still there. So after 1 bite, I didn’t took it anymore. And yap! Hubby finishes the (half) fish by himself.

Shredded Jellyfish with Thai Sauce

Here’s something to go with the rice, if you do order. ;) We ate it plainly and though it’s really crunchy and yummy. I feel that it’s better to have something to go with this dish. It’s really a lot and hubby wasn’t interested in this dish which I had to finish. (No choice, since I am the one who ordered it. humpz)
We were quite full by the time these dishes came….

Roasted Crispy Duck
Roasted Crispy Duck

Here’s something not to try if you are on diet. hehe Like the name of the dish, it sure is crispy but the ‘fats’ beneath the skin… Beware! keke it’s really thick that I pick the skin and left the meat for hubby to consume. :) It’s yummy (without the oily fats) !

Chicken wrapped in Special Paper aka 纸包鸡. Well, it’s juicy and delicious. No complains! The juice of the chicken are all wrapped in the paper. And it sure is yummy!

Steamed or Deep Fried Chinese Bun
Steamed or Deep Fried Chinese Bun

Long awaited buns! (Hubby waiting for the bun to go with the gravy) And he love it, it’s crispy! And sweet and smell really nice. The outer layer is crispy and the inner is soft and sweet. Really good combination. Dipping with the gravy (which had turn cold) is fantastic. Must try!

Deep Fried Crispy Soft Shell Crabs with Oats
Deep Fried Crispy Soft Shell Crabs with Oats

Soft shell crab is nice but too much of the taste of oats, we got sick of the dish soon. (We were really really full!) The sweetness of the oats blends into the soft shell crab and was really strong.

Sweet & Sour Sliced Fish

Hubby like the fish, well for me! The sweet and sour fish is alright. Not much comments on the dish.

Sauteed Prawns & Chicken in Sichuan Sauce
Sauteed Prawns & Chicken in Sichuan Sauce

Ok! We gotta admit, when this dish was served, we feel that this plate was too much for us. It’s really a lot and the chicken was dry. But I do love the crunchiness of the vege. And ‘forced’ hubby to take some of this healthy vege. And I couldn’t stop taking the vege till it finish.

Cold Sago Cream with Watermelon

Despite the fact that both of us were full, we still go ahead to order the dessert. Oh my! It’s great! All my appetite came back, just for the bowl of Sago Cream with Watermelon. It’s sweet and really yummy!

Chilled Sweet Mango Pudding

Hmm… Don’t really remember the taste of the mango pudding. The Sago cream with Watermelon was too overwhelming! Haha! Probably would comment next time if we do went back to eat.

For your info, they do have buffet lunch for tim sum too. Might be going there for tim sum some days…

    Hi Anggie,

Ha! That’s not a lot if you can really eat. Pity my wife is a small eater, if not it’s really value for money. :(

Some of the dishes are better in terms of taste and quality, but we have yet to touch a quarter of the dishes there. You have to try to know whether it’s nice but for us it’s value for money.

    Hi LZmommy,

2 person not a lot if you factor in I’m very big size. Haha!

    Hi cutieprincessmummy,

The price for the 2 of us after +++ is about $56 sing so each is about $28, not too expensive but it will be good if go in a big group. Singapore many good food, you will surely enjoy your time here. Pity your stomach though! :)
