Vicks Vaporub for cough

May 11, 2007 · Filed Under Mama's Yakking · 2 Comments

Received this email from my colleague and heard it on the radio too. Seems effective. :)

Just to share…. :)

Try this remedy :
It works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren’t sure why.

To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.

Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

An adult friend tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it. So, if you have kids/grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try yourself and you will be absolutely amazed.

The Rajah Inn

A unique concept of steamboat served in mini-personal pots using recipes of Indo-Chinese dishes, The Rajah Inn serve lunch and dinner in 2 very different dining concepts. For lunch, they serve porridge buffet & for dinner, they provide a eat-all-you-can ala carte steamboat buffet.

We went on a weekend and the price for the ala-carte is few dollars more if we were to spend on a weekday. Since we are trying to limit our expenditure, we decided to take the set instead of the buffet. Place is crowded and we had to wait awhile to get seats. To maximise the space of the soup, they had actually, used trays for putting ingredients for some of the tables.

We ordered 1 steamboat with chicken soup base while the other with tom yam soup base. Ordered a chicken set and seafood set to go with the steamboat. :)

Chicken set @ $6.80 & Seafood Set @ $7.60. I prefer the seafood set as there’s more varieties as compared to the chicken set. There’s the squid, fish, prawns for the seafood set whereas the chicken was the only different ingredient in the chicken set. The Tom Yam soup was nice. Sour and Spicy. Yummy! Chicken soup base, become tastier as we add on the ingredients.

We were told that there was a promotion for the Deep Fried Silken Tofu that day. ($3.00 instead of $4.00) So we decided to give it a try. The silken tofu describes perfectly the dish very well. Despite that the skin is crispy, the tofu is very very silky. Yummy! Sauce is wonderful too!

We noticed a special dish, which was indicated in the menu as only available on weekends and public holidays. Durian Oozee. Having tried the durian puff @ Xiao Xuan Feng the previous time, we wanted to try the durian oozee. 1st look at the Durian Oozee reminded me of the Goreng Pisang. Thinking that it is using similar concept for the durian. The durian is rich and oozes out when we bite it. However, we prefer the durian puff @ Xiao Xuan Feng with its chewy skin. :)

There’s still other dishes in the menu which we haven’t got the chance to try yet. And we would be going to try one of the weekday! ;)

Oops! Almost forgot! :) It’s at Tiong Bahru Plaza #02-13 ;)

Fruit Fondue @ Coffee Club

May 9, 2007 · Filed Under Yummy! · 4 Comments

After our dinner, we bid farewell to our group of friends and went for a cup of drink at Coffee Club @ The Central before heading home. Couldn’t get a nice window view table though (all was taken up when we reached there). Ordered for ourselves a drink each and a fruit fondue (which look yummy!).

Of all the fruits available, loved the taste of the banana with the hot chocolate. It’s sweet & yummy! Other than banana, there’s also strawberry, mango and kiwi. Though the chocolate wasn’t warm up when we started eating. (We were impatient to wait for it to boil ;) ), the chocolate still taste very rich. We finished every drop of chocolate that is in the pot even though we had finished the fruits. I could feel the richness of the chocolate as I ‘drink’ it. It’s really really rich and sweet!

Hopefully the next time I went there, I could get a nice scenery view of the Clarke Quay from the Coffee Club as I indulge myself with the chocolate fondue!! :)

Yip Cheong Kee Eating House

May 8, 2007 · Filed Under Yummy! · 2 Comments

Since the 1st time we had our dinner at People’s Park, my friends wanted to go there again to try the other Cze Cha stalls. So, the following week, we went there again. This time, we decided on Yip Cheong Kee Eating House, at the far end of the People’s Park Complex.

Here’s what we ordered:

Can’t really remember how’s the taste. So think it should be normal. :) Looking at the pics, it sure look delicious. keke

The tofu is soft and the prawns are quite big. The dish is just nice, not very saltish.

Here’s a dish that we would ordered almost every meal. (If you do notice! :-P ) The prawn paste chicken is not as saltish as some of the others which I had. It’s just nice.

This is one of my favourite dish for that night. It’s very simple and yet yummy! The salted fish with the beansprouts tasted yummy!

You Tiao @ Yip Cheong Kee Eating House

The fried you tiao is very nice. Praises were heard at our table but hubby and I think that our maid’s cooking was nicer. Hehe

Overall comments given by my group of makan kakis: It’s better than the previous stall that we went the other time.

Sumo House

May 7, 2007 · Filed Under Yummy! · 2 Comments

Went Big Bookshop @ Clementi one evening to buy some stationery. Decided to settle our dinner at Sumo House at the 1st level. It was quite packed with diners. Well, the pictures in the menu didn’t really look much tempting so we ordered those that seems more ‘inviting’ ;)

I ordered Salmon Teriyaki Set ($4.90) and hubby ordered Katsu Don Set ($2.90). Very economical isn’t it? :) In addition, we ordered Breaded Scallop and Yaki Tori as side dishes.

Here’s the dishes:

Salmon Teriyaki Set @ Sumon House

Just like any Japanese Restaurant, the Salmon Teriyaki Set includes rice, fruits, salad, miso soup and salmon. Overall, it’s nice and charged at a very reasonable price.

Hubby’s Katsu Don looks nice too. See the egg and meat on top of the rice. Doesn’t it look delicious? ;)

Mayonnaise with the breaded scallop blends very well. And its really nice. :)

Yaki Tori @ Sumo House

Chicken is tender and the sauce make it a bit saltish.

So if you want to enjoy a economical Japanese meal. You can head down to Sumo House! :)

Tag: Food Around The World

Thanks shooi for the tag ;) This is my 2nd tag. Hehe Really excited and its about my favorite topic, FOOD! One of my favorite food is Chilli Crab.

Chili crab is a famous seafood dish served in Singapore. It is made with hard-shell crabs, and cooked in a thick gravy with a tomato chili base.

Chilli Crab
Chilli Crab @ East Coast Park No Signboard

Favorite part of the crab would be the crab pincers cause’ it got a lot of meat. This is one of the few dishes which I don’t mind a ‘hands-on’ on my food. :) Alexandra Village Food Centre #01-07/08/09 Rong Guang BBQ Seafood Stall serve a different type of chilli crab. (Sorry, I didn’t took any pictures that time) Its gravy is of Tom Yam flavor, which is different from the normal Ketchup Chilli gravy. Went there once during my 2nd pregnancy, got a craving for crabs and had managed to persuade hubby to eat crab that time (old wives’ tale: eating crab during pregnancy, baby’s hands & legs would be extra ‘crabby’)

Both of us loved the crabs there after our first time there. Though the gravy is not the usual, there’s really a lot of meat in the crab. Not only was there a lot of meat. It’s so fresh that we could just pull the meat out so easily as though we are sucking with a straw. No kidding! :) And it’s the first time I ate such fresh and juicy crab!

So, if you happen to be shopping nearby, probably you could go there for dinner and try their chilli (or Tom Yam) crab. oohh, I am thinking of the juicy crab already….

Auntie?

May 2, 2007 · Filed Under Mama's Yakking · 6 Comments

Just started to play with scrapbooking few days back. I was doing scrapbooking using Amilie’s baby photos in the meantime tidying up all the photos in the computer.

Amilie happened to be around when I was viewing this picture:

Family Photo
1st family photo taken @ TMC :)

It’s not the first time she saw this picture and I knew she didn’t recognise me in the picture. :)

Still remember the first time she saw this picture

A (Pointing to hubby): Papa!
Seeing that she only called out my hubby, I pointed to my picture and ask her who is that
She paused there for quite a while and didn’t reply me

Few days back, Amilie saw the same picture again. Same as the first time she saw this picture, she pointed out to hubby and said “Papa”. So out of curiosity, I pointed to the baby (Amilie) and she replied, “Baby”. Next, I point to myself, “Auntie” was her reply! Well, for some of you, you would know I do dislike being called Auntie! Sob! Sob! Imagine being called Auntie by your daughter! It’s absolutely 晴天霹雳! Okay, a bit exaggerating but haiz… am I that old???

Think I have to ‘brainwash‘ my daughter on that photo. Hmmph! :-P

Loving Moments…

May 1, 2007 · Filed Under Mama's Yakking · 3 Comments

It’s really wonderful when you see your kids loving each other. :) Yesterday, I was just talking about the Barney story and this evening I got a ‘bonus’ from the 2 little ones. Too bad, I wasn’t ready with a camera or a camcorder (couldn’t bother to move myself to get the camcorder) otherwise it would be nice to play it especially when they fight. :)

The 2 little ones (actually it’s only Amilie) were watching Barney and it happened when the show ends and Barney singing the “I Love You” song. Amilie as usual, went around hugging everyone. I find it so sweet when Amilie hugged Izaac and tried to kiss him. I can feel the gentleness when she was hugging Izaac. And Izaac giving a smile back in return. (Too bad I didn’t capture it)

Back in my room, while watching TV, Amilie started ‘jumping’ with her knees and Izaac was watching her. Suddenly he burst our laughing. Like giggling and Amilie, encouraged by his laughter, jumped more to make her lil’ bro laugh. What a scene! :)

It’s more enjoyable when Izaac started to imitate Amilie and started jumping with her. Haha! It’s fun to see 2 bubbly, happy kiddos jumping on the bed enjoying themselves. ;)

After awhile, grandmother carried Izaac out of the room and Amilie asked me for her didi. (It’s the first time she asked for him, you know?) I was surprised and very very happy. :)

Hopefully that this kind of loving scenes would get more and more from today onwards. keke
